While a junior in high school, Abigail Porier began experiencing symptoms of double vision and facial numbness. Various tests and exams revealed the existence of a brain tumor that was exerting pressure on various facial nerves. With the tumor growing in size, Abigail underwent surgery at MD Anderson for a partial resection of the tumor. Given the location of the tumor and its proximity to other key structures, the tumor could not be fully removed. In 2016 she finished seven weeks of radiation therapy, which is expected to halt the growth of the tumor completely.
Abigail maintained a great attitude and high spirits throughout the process with the knowledge of her fortune overall. Along her journey she has met many other patients with more severe situations and has been inspired by their positive approach to life. Abigail’s journey continues.
