Danny is married with four children and is a pastor in the Houston area. After a seizure in the middle of the night in 2010, Danny was diagnosed with an Oligodendroglioma brain tumor. Danny was halfway through his Doctoral Thesis when diagnosed. After taking two years off for surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, he decided it was time to go back to finishing his Ph.D. Danny called his study group back together and finished his final two chapters of his Doctoral Thesis. He walked across the stage in his funny looking hat to become Dr. Mercer. To Danny, finishing the doctoral degree is not the real victory; it simply represented it. Danny says, “The real victory is that my wife and kids got to see that this cancer didn’t have the last word.” With family and friends constantly by his side walking the road with him Danny and his family believe that every sunrise of a new day is a symbol of HOPE!
