My sister, Dannine Van Matre had a benign tumor that was the size of a baseball. It was obviously causing serious damage. We are devastated with her loss and we wish she could still be with us today. She had complications that came with the choice to put her on another round of chemotherapy while her body was fighting Dilantin poisoning. Even without a medical background, I am mortified that she was put back on chemotherapy as it seems logical to allow her body to heal before attacking it again. We finally transported my sister from Baytown to Memorial Hermann where MD Anderson doctors collaborated with Memorial Hermann doctors. We were told everything that occurred with my sister’s treatment was unprecedented. We are still very grateful for everything that Memorial Hermann and MD Anderson doctors tried. She passed away not long after arriving at Hermann.
