My Daddy, my hero, Dan S. Barker passed away January 29, 2009, after a valiant year long battle with brain cancer at the age of 54. He was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme Brian Cancer on November 30, 2008. We were told that he had four tumors. He had one rather large tumor on the right side of his brain that we would operate on immediately. Another, one the left side of his brain. We were so very blessed to have a wonderful team of doctors on our side, Dr. Kim, Dr. McDonald and Dr. Yung. Dan underwent two craniotomies, radiation, chemotherapy and several experimental tests. After one of the most courageous and honorable battles with brain cancer, our hero went to be with our Savior, Jesus Christ. Dan was always the life of the party kind of guy! He loved life and lived it to the very fullest. Dan had a great love for his family and showed it every day. We was the son of Catherine Barker Mullinnix, the loving husband of Debbie Barker, the best father to Amy Katherine Barker & Betsi Bentley. Dan was the greatest Pappy to his two grandchildren Katelyn and Kobey. Dan treasured his family so much and greatly loved each one of his brothers and sisters unconditionally. We know Dan would also love his new addition the family his future son-in-law Austin. Family was so important to him, and he cherished every moment with each of them! With a strong love for the outdoors, Dan spent many of his days on his ranch “Five Point Spread,” fishing, hunting, mending fences or doing whatever he could outside! He also loved working with his hands, wood carving duck decoys, knife making and many treasured items made for his family. Dan was a true Aggie and loved to always give the “gig’em” sign in a true give ’em hell manor. He was the love of our lives! We miss him each and every day, but we know he is smiling down on us and watching over us each and every day! One of Dan’s favorite things to say was “work hard, dream big.” Don’t worry Daddy…we are working hard, and dreaming big…just for you!
